今年端午节，是我国政府把端午节纳入国家法定节假日的第一年。对于国人其实都是一个启示和提醒，告诉国人别忘记自己的传统节日和先人留下的宝贵民族精神。须知，传统节日的形成是一个民族或国家的历史文化长期积淀的过程。

端午节，作为我国六大传统节日（春节、端午、中秋、重阳、清明、七夕）之一，蕴涵了深厚的文化传统和多姿多彩的民俗特色，已成为非物质文化遗产名录中重要的组成部分。今年，国务院首次将端午节设立为国家法定节假日，又时逢第二十九届奥运会在首都北京举行，5月29日—31日奥运圣火在湖北省境内传递，佳节逢盛事。
今年端午一场集吃、喝、玩、乐、赏于一体的活动盛宴，于5月30日—6月9日，在东湖风景区听涛景区精彩演绎，吸引了武汉及1+8城市圈的数十万人参与。
武汉端午文化节从2006年开始到2007年由东湖管委会已成功举办了两届。文化节的龙舟赛、民俗风情庙会、民间特色美食、民间绝技表演等也有机融入到端午文化和楚情楚韵中，同时为喜迎奥运会的召开，还增加了诸多奥运活动，有祥云火炬接力大巡游、万人签名（寄语）迎奥运、“童眼看奥运”儿童画奥运绘画展等，突出奥运风潮。
节日期间每天都有国民体质免费大检测，还举办喝啤酒比赛、包粽子比赛、“奥运一家亲”家庭运动会等丰富多彩的活动，游客还能在艺术家指导下，体验民间百工的乐趣及民间童戏，包括滚铁环、掰手腕、打陀螺、跳绳、踢毽子、摸珠儿、打魔拳、玩弹子、跳皮筋、吹泡泡……
“觅屈子吟踪，赏楚天山水”
两千多年前，头戴峨冠、满腔忧愤的爱国主义诗人屈原，曾行吟在武汉东湖一带。如今，在屈子行吟之地，行吟阁、沧浪亭、橘颂亭、屈原纪念馆等展示屈原文化的建筑群已成体系，东湖正向国内最具规模的屈原纪念中心迈进。
吃好吃的粽子、大力划上龙舟……亲身体验东湖有关楚文化的历史，香包、艾叶、五色丝线、钟魁像、屈原像，在东湖风景区，已形成“觅屈子吟踪，赏楚天山水”的旅游观光线路。

龙舟起水，端午节到，龙舟鼓响，龙抬头了。端午节被定为中国龙舟节，龙舟文化更是为全球华人、华侨所认同，龙舟文化活动已经扩展到世界许多地方，端午节的龙舟赛已成为 “寻根问祖”寄托情思的一种表达方式。
今年的武汉端午文化节龙舟赛大有看点，企业代表队、高校队从5月31日到6月9日每天比赛，龙舟竞渡夺“金磐”！

端午节吃粽子是传统的节庆风俗。为传承民俗传统文化，今年端午文化节专业速冻食品生产企业在东湖现场呈设“思念”江城大棕王的展示，让游客大开眼界。

The Dragon Boat Festival as one of the China's six major traditional festival (the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival, Tomb Sweeping Festival, Double Seventh Festival) which contains a deep cultural tradition and colorful folk characteristics has become an important non-material cultural heritage.
