黄陂区是武汉市人口最多、面积最大的新城区。区北的武汉木兰生态旅游区是我国最早开发的城市生态旅游区之一，也是全国最大的城区生态旅游板块。2000年，被联合国开发计划署列为《中国21世纪议程》优先发展项目。
近十年来，黄陂旅游业在区委、区政府的正确领导下，坚持科学发展观，始终围绕建设湖北旅游强区，打造中部休闲之都，实现“三个跨越”（即从旅游特色产业向支柱产业跨越、从旅游资源大区向旅游经济强区跨越、从武汉旅游市场向华中乃至全国旅游市场跨越）的战略目标，开拓创新，不懈努力，取得卓著成效。目前，区内已建成华中地区最大的城市生态景群——“木兰八景”，即：木兰山、木兰湖、木兰天池、木兰古门、木兰清凉寨、木兰云雾山、木兰草原和农耕年华，其中国AAAA级景区1家，国家AAA级景区2家。达到星级水准各类宾馆饭店62家，其中三星级宾馆饭店3家，四星级宾馆饭店1家。2007年，全区共接待游客330万人次，创旅游综合收入3.4亿元。
围绕暨定的战略发展目标，“十一五”末全区旅游业发展旅游将完成以下目标任务：将“木兰八景”由现在的省市知名旅游品牌提升为华中地区知名旅游品牌；旅游综合收入占到全区GDP的8-9%；建设形成3-4个国家4A级以上旅游骨干景区；直接或间接带动5-6万农民参与或从事旅游业；建成16家三星级以上（含三星级）的宾馆酒店，其中五星级宾馆酒店1家，四星级宾馆酒店2家；全区旅游发展规模将达到具备一次性接待1.5万名游客食宿的能力。最终实现“湖北旅游强区，中部休闲之都”的战略目标。

The Mulan Mountain is AAA-level national scenic areas, the Millennium religious landmarks and national geological parks which located 55km to the north of Huangpi District with an elevation of 582.1 meters. It has “three names” of god’s area, stones area and harmonious area since ancient times.
-It is named god’s area for the tale of “Buddha in Mulan Mountain should be far yet near”. Mulan Shan is a famous religious mountain of 1500 years with seven palaces, eight Taoist temples, thirty-six halls and thousands of Buddha Statues. Mulan Mountain was originally built in Sui and Tang Dynasties but prosperous in Ming and Qing Dynasties. 木兰山的石雕
采用了本地的石料绿帘石镌刻而成。“唐木兰将军坊”高5米、宽9米，下刻二龙戏珠的浮雕，双凤在上，双龙在下真是寓意很深的佳作，也是尊重女子气节的真实写照。
坐落在海拔520米的千尺峰上的玉皇阁，始建于唐代，阁高10米，相传是木兰将军凯旋归朝后，朝廷赐冠的地方，整个建筑没用片瓦寸木，都用大小石块交错干彻而成。
棋盘石状太极，凌空耸立在峭壁之颠，传说木兰将军解甲归乡后，时常到这块巨石上同道人下棋。

风景区分为古寨区、石景区、花苑区、山庄区四区。
木兰山庙宇，始于隋，兴于唐，盛于明，先后曾出现过
七宫八观三十六殿、古佛千余尊的壮观场景。木兰山宗教建筑的特点是：一是“佛中有道，道中有佛”，把佛教与道教建筑融为一体；二是寺庙建筑注重结构，用石块交错嵌压而成，不用泥浆，即干砌石墙。
古寨区：蜿蜒起伏于主峰祈嗣顶，海拔582米处，全长5华里。始建于南宋开元年（1259年），最早为烽火台，清咸丰三年（1853年）为防太平军加修炮楼，是一座名副其实用于军事防御性古寨。其后，随着宗教活动盛行，寺庙逐年兴建，形成不少有神奇色彩的景点建筑。古寨区内有一天门、南天门、木兰坊、二天门、三天门、金顶坊、玉皇坊、玉皇洞、灵霄街、狮鼻洞等主要景点。
石景区：此山奇石颇多，形态各异，加上民间古老的传说，身在其中颇有形神兼备的韵味。整个石景区，通过步行1090个石阶与各个石态各异的景观相串连，令游人一面登石梯，一面观赏铠甲面、人面石、凤冠石、金蟾石、棋盘石、穿箭石、大佛石、白云洞、太子洞等景点。
花苑区：有古好汉坡、水晶宫、九碑石、打儿窝、三眼井、下马石等景点。
山庄区：有滴水崖、龙头石、蟠龙竹与卧虎石、双龙亭、剑壁石等景点，有近20处避暑山庄。

古门的水，由海拔360米的山涧顺木兰峡谷而下，沿途接纳山溪泉水，在峡谷中、下段形成声势浩大的瀑布，瀑布区延伸1.5公里，期间大小瀑布起伏跌坨，溪泉交汇，潭溪相接。两岸山脉或陡峭嶙峋或平缓开阔，谷中水流或急流澎湃或宁静和缓。峡谷内共有大型瀑布4处，小型瀑布20余处，大石滩5处，深潭10多处，山岩溪流4处。
